Yorkie

The ultra long, fine, silky coat parts along the
spine and falls straight down on either side. It is steal
blue on the body and tail, and tan elsewhere. Puppies are
usually black & tan. The tail is usually docked to
half its length. If the dogs are not for showing, the
owners usually go for the shaggy look.
Height 'n Weight
Height: 6-7 inches
(15-17½cm.)
Weight: 7 pounds
(3.2kg.)
Temperament
The Yorkshire terrier seems oblivious of its
small size. It is ever eager for adventure and trouble.
This little dog is highly energetic, brave, loyal and
clever. Affectionate with its master, but sometimes
suspicious of strangers. It can be aggressive to strange
dogs and small animals
Exercise needs
These
are active little dogs, who need a daily walk. Play
will take care of a lot of their exercise needs, however,
as with all breeds, it will not fulfill their primal
instinct to walk. Dogs who do not get to go on daily
walks are more likely to display behavior
problems.
Trainability
Yorkies are willing and capable students. They
respond best to plenty of encouragement, repetition and
positive reinforcement. They seem to love the mental
stimulation and challenge which obedience training
provides - plus it's time spent with you. You'll find
that your Yorkie has no trouble learning proper household
etiquette and all the basic obedience training commands.
Tasks such as sit, down, stay, come and fetch are all
enthusiastically taken to by Yorkies.
Nutrition & Diet
Yorkies have very beautiful hair, and apart from
proper grooming, it requires you feed your dog a balanced
diet in order to maintain its luster. As a general
rule, do not feed your dog only one kind of dog
food. Find a dry food that it likes and has no
trouble digesting, and then find a wet food that isn't
too rich. The wet food will help maintain the dog's
natural oils, keeping the coat soft and shiny. Some
people with toy dogs sometimes feed them cat food.
This is wrong, and could give your pet digestive
upset. While dogs may be extremely attracted to the
scent of cat food, it is too rich. Dogs are also
lactose intolerant, so beware of cheese and
milk.
Living conditions
The
Yorkie is a good dog for apartment life. They are very
active indoors and will do okay without a yard. The
Yorkie is sensitive to the cold and prefers warm
climates.
