Italian Greyhound

The Italian Greyhound is very similar to the Greyhound, but much smaller and more slender in all proportions. They are a member of Toy group. The Italian Greyhound's chest is deep, with a tucked abdomen, long slender legs and long neck. The face is long and pointed, like a full sized greyhound. Overall, they look like "miniature" Greyhounds. They are more elegant and graceful in appearance.

 Height 'n Weight:

Height: Ideally should fall between 13 and 15 inches high at the withers

Weight: 7-15 pounds

 Temperament:

The Italian Greyhound is affectionate and makes a good companion dog. The breed is excellent for families and enjoys the company of people. This little breed is active, intelligent, patient and persistent to achieve results. The breed is gentle and timid around strangers. As long as the house is quiet and calm, this breed will do well with older children and other pets. This dog is extremely fast! They can climb wire fencing and are very inquisitive - jumping from chair to table tops to nearby furniture. They are not good companions for large dogs.

 Exercise needs:

Active and lively, these dogs love playful frolic and make ideal walking companions. The high energy Italian Greyhound needs daily exercise. A rousing game of fetch or Frisbee is great fun for these little athletes, or as they mature, many Italian Greyhounds are content with a brisk walk.

 Trainability:

Training the Italian Greyhoundcan either be very easy or very difficult, depending upon your individual dog and the manner at which you go about this task. Italian Greyhounds are very intelligent and respond well to soft voices and positive reinforcement. Training the Italian Greyhound takes a great deal of patience but, given opportunity, these difficult canine companions can prove to be the shining stars of the class!

 Nutrition & Diet:

 A good, well-balanced diet of high quality dog food is necessary for these breeds. It's muscular body and shiny coat requires a high protein, high fat diet. Oat, wheat, or barley grass, spirulina, or algae added to the food will satisfy their antioxidant.

 Living conditions:

Indoors, city or country, apartment or house, needs daily exercise and attention. T hey are fairly active indoors.

 Life expectancy:

The life expectancy for The Italian Greyhound  is 14 – 16 years

 Origin:

The Italian Greyhound breeds are originates from Italy. They may have been the first breed of dog bred exclusively as a pet, though they also were used by some to course small vermin. The Italian Greyhound is the smallest of the family of gaze hounds.
