Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small breed of dog. It is a small spaniel with substantial silky coat of moderate length, often with a mild wave, and long ears. The beautiful small spaniel with substantial silky coat of moderate length has dark round expressive big eyes, a well developed nose and long ears . The tail is sometimes docked to no less then three times its length. It has a conical muzzle and a flat skull. These Spaniels have a silky coat, sometimes with a slight waviness that comes in ruby, black & tan, tri-color and Blenheim. They usually considered one of the toy dog breeds.

Height: 12-13 inches (30-33 cm.)

Weight: 10-18 pounds (5-8 kg.)

  Temperament:

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an eager, affectionate tail-wagger. They are fearless lively, outgoing and sportive. As Cavalier's love people, they are said to be naturally well behaved and also get along well with other pets. They are descended from hunting dogs and love to romp in the great outdoors. This breed sometimes displays a chasing instinct and should be kept well enclosed. They do best with adults as well as with children and some can be reserved with strangers. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a pleasant companion dog. They need lots of companionship to be happy. As they have a great sense of smell, they can be used in short hunts in open country.

 Exercise needs:

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels need a daily walk.  Play will take care of a lot of their exercise needs. They enjoy a good romp in a safe open area. These breeds love to play in a fenced-in yard.

 Trainability:

They are intelligent enough to understand what you want and therefore are usually easy to train and respond well to gentle obedience training.

 Nutrition & Diet:

Owners can opt for either home-cooked or readymade food for Spaniels, or a combination of home-cooked and readymade. These breeds can also be fed dry food available on the market. Dry food usually helps to keep the dog’s teeth clean and his gums healthy and helps them to work his jaws. This kind of dog food is easily digestible.

 Living conditions:

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are good for apartment life. They are moderately active indoors and a small yard will be sufficient. The Cavalier does not do well in very warm conditions.

 Life expectancy:

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels lives about 9-14 years.As with all the breeds, a healthy Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can live well.

 Origin:

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed originated in the 20th century, though has its roots in the older King Charles Spaniel of the Restoration. It is descended from the King Charles spaniel.
