Bichon Frise

Height 'n Weight
Weight: 7-12 pounds (3-5 kg)
Height: 9-12 inches (23-30 cm)
Temperament
Gentle mannered, sensitive, playful and
affectionate. A cheerful attitude is the hallmark of the
breed and one should settle for nothing less.
Exercise needs
These
are active little dogs, who need a daily walk. Play
will take care of a lot of their exercise needs, however,
as with all breeds, play will not fulfill their primal
instinct to walk. Dogs who do not get to go on daily
walks are more likely to display behavior problems. They
will also enjoy a good romp in a safe open area off lead,
such as a large fenced in
yard.
Trainability
Easily guided and molded by consistent handling,
as a dog bred to be a companion, your happiness is their
paramount goal.
Nutrition & Diet
The first instruction is to provide premium dog
food and to avoid generic brands There are some
brands of foods that are better for your pet than
others. Ask your local pet supply store for a list
of premium foods and choose from among those. Up to
about one year of age, this will also mean a Puppy
formula as opposed to adult foods.
Living conditions
The Bichon Frise can
live in an apartment if it gets enough exercise. They are
fairly active indoors and will do okay without a
yard.
Life expectancy
About 15 or more
years
Origin
The
Bichon Frise first appeared in the 14th century, a cross
between the Barbet Water Spaniel and the Poodle. The
Bichon was traded by Spanish sailors and became a
favorite of the 16th century French royal
courts.
